If a PAC supports Structured Text and C++, should Ladder Logic be abandoned?

Structured Text is superior for complex math, array manipulation, and string processing. What is the difference between Polling and Change-of-State (COS) communication?

Polling means the CPU queries every I/O device on every scan cycle, regardless of whether anything has changed, generating constant network traffic. Does connecting a PAC to an SQL database still require middleware?
